The Sakai Big Fish Night Market is a summer tradition with about 700 years of history, held every year in late July at Ohama Park in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. Said to have begun in the Kamakura period, this festival is cherished as a local traditional event that combines a fish market and a festival. The highlight is the lively "fish auction" held at night. Energetic calls fill the air, and the venue, enveloped in the excitement of a fishing port, draws visitors into an extraordinary world. Local food stalls, specialty product booths, and stage events come together, and the area is crowded with people from day into night. At the finale, "SBI Maika" fireworks are launched, and large blooms of fireworks color Sakai's summer night sky.
