The Hiraoka Shrine Akisato Festival is held every autumn at Hiraoka Shrine in Higashiosaka, Osaka Prefecture, and is a traditional rite giving thanks for the autumn harvest. Known locally as the Hiraoka Festival, it is one of the largest autumn festivals in Osaka Prefecture. In the pre-festival on the Saturday and Sunday aligned with Sports Day, 23 large and small taikodai (drum floats) are dedicated by local parishioners. With the loud calls of "Chosa ja" and the sounds of drums and bells echoing, the sight of floats over 4 meters tall passing through difficult spots such as intersections and entering Hiraoka Shrine is a highlight. After 7 PM, lights called nakadaki are lit, and you can enjoy a procession with a fantastical atmosphere different from the daytime. Over 400 food stalls line the shrine grounds, bustling with food, goldfish scooping, and lottery draws. However, the main festival on October 15 consists only of Shinto rituals, and the taikodai and stalls are limited to the pre-festival, so please check the schedule when visiting.
