The Kishiwada October Festival is the collective name for the danjiri festivals held every October in the six districts of Kishiwada City, Osaka Prefecture, known as Yamate (Kami). It takes place around Higashikishiwada Station, Shimomatsu Station, and Kumedada Station on the JR West Hanwa Line, in the Higashikishiwada, Minamikamori, Yagi, Yamana, Minamiyamana, and Yamataki districts, each centered on the shrine of a community whose predecessor was a village in the former Sennan or Senboku District, and is supervised by the Kishiwada October Festival Toshinban (annual organizer). The highlights of the festival differ by district. At Yashiro Shrine in the Higashikishiwada district and Yamana Shrine in the Yamataki district, a mikoshi (portable shrine) procession is held, which is rare for a danjiri festival. The Yagi district makes a pilgrimage to Kumedada Temple on the second day in the "Gyoki Mairi," and in the Minamiyamana district, all towns make a pilgrimage to Tsugawa Shrine. The main schedule is as follows: a test pull on the Sunday before the first Monday of October, a yomiya (eve festival) on the Saturday before the main festival, and the main festival on the Sunday before Health and Sports Day.
