🏮 Okiyo Matsuri
起きよ祭り
Hyuga, Miyazaki · Night of the 1st day of the 8th lunar month (Hassaku)
Held on the night of the first day of the eighth month of the old lunar calendar in Mimitsu-cho, Hyuga City, Miyazaki Prefecture, this festival is based on the legend of Emperor Jimmu's eastern expedition. Children go around tapping on the doors of houses with bamboo branches decorated with strips of paper, calling out, "Wake up, wake up."
Getting there
To reach Mimitsu Okiyo Festival, it is about 20 minutes by car from JR Hyugashi Station, or take the Miyazaki Kotsu bus bound for Mimitsu and get off at the last stop, then walk about 5 minutes. There is a temporary parking lot available.
