Gion Matsuri is a festival held over one month, from July 1 to 31, at Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto. Its main highlights are the yamaboko (festival float) processions of the Saki Matsuri (July 17) and Ato Matsuri (July 24). The floats are assembled without nails, and during Yoiyama the lanterns and screen displays can be enjoyed. It is registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
