For two days on the third Saturday and Sunday of April each year, the Seki Festival is held on Motomachi Street in Seki, Gifu Prefecture. It is a citizen-participation event heralding spring in Seki, a city known for its swordsmithing. Groups including baton twirlers, brass bands, folk dancers, dancers, and taiko drummers gather on Motomachi Street, enlivening the festival with parades and stage performances. From evening, the customary Andon Mikoshi Contest begins. Mikoshi (portable shrines) reflecting local color such as cormorant fishing and Seki swordsmithing, along with creative andon lanterns depicting the times, adorned with beautiful illuminations and gorgeous decorations, parade through the streets of Seki at night in a spectacular sight. The following day, an awards ceremony and award parade for the winning groups take place, coloring spring in Seki over the two days.
