The Kanuma Satsuki Festival is held at the Kanuma City Flower and Tree Center in Kanuma City, Tochigi Prefecture. Kanuma City is known as Japan's leading satsuki azalea producing area, and the festival began in 1972 (Showa 47) with the aims of expanding sales channels for satsuki, attracting tourists, and promoting the local industry. The main attraction is the "Grand Exhibition," where about 300 satsuki plants carefully grown by enthusiasts from across the country are displayed. At the venue, tens of thousands of satsuki plants are exhibited and sold, along with local specialty products, and it is known as one of the largest satsuki events in the country. There are also a variety of other events, including a "Kanuma Satsuki Flower Contest" for high school students, sales of seedlings, and workshops. Admission is free.
