Inaba no Shobu Tsunahiki is a tug-of-war held at the Boy's Festival in June, passed down in Iwami Town, Ketaka Town, and Aoya Town in Tottori Prefecture. It is inherited in several towns of the Inaba region and performed as a Shinto ritual in each area. This festival is a Shinto ritual that divines the year's harvest and fishing catch by the outcome of the tug-of-war. The result of the contest of strength carries the traditional meaning of foretelling abundance in agriculture and fishing, and it has been handed down as an event long preserved in the region. The highlight is the tug-of-war ritual itself, which carries the meaning of praying for abundance. Held in Iwami Town and Ketaka Town among others, the sight of local people taking part conveys the traditional culture of Inaba, passed down with the coming of summer.
