The Tottori Shanshan Festival is a summer festival held every year in August in Tottori City. Using the shanshan-gasa, a simplified version of the Inaba umbrella dance, about 4,000 people dance all at once, and this is the highlight of the event. The festival's name comes from the sound of water boiling vigorously, "yu ga shanshan waku," and from bells ringing clearly, "suzu no ne ga shanshan naru."
