The Iki-bina Festival is held every year on April 3 at Hida Ichinomiya Minashi Shrine in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, organized by the Hida Ichinomiya Iki-bina Executive Committee and others. Started after the war to pray for women's grace and happiness, the festival is still beloved as a spring event in Hida, wishing for women's happiness and a good harvest. The centerpiece is the Iki-bina Procession, in which nine chosen unmarried women dressed as the empress, the emperor, and five court ladies walk in procession. Starting at 1:00 PM, they travel a course of about 1 km in about 40 minutes, passing before worshippers together with red and blue ogres, shrine maidens, and child attendants. In the shrine grounds, Shinto rites are held in the main hall, along with dedicatory performances such as the Urayasu no Mai dance, and from 3:20 PM a mochi-scattering using small diamond-shaped rice cakes and cocoon dumplings. From March 16 to April 3 there is also an exhibition of clay dolls and Kyoho dolls, and the area is wrapped in spring festivity all day.
