The Tsubetsu Summer Festival is the largest summer event in the town of Tsubetsu in Hokkaido. Held at the Tsubetsu Riverbank Park, it draws many visitors each year and is the two days when the town is at its liveliest. This year's festival, the 53rd, is organized by the Tsubetsu Summer Festival Executive Committee. The eve-of-festival program features the Tsubetsu Sen-nin Odori (thousand-person dance), and a fireworks display that marks the start of summer in the eastern Hokkaido region. The main festival includes a public recording of HBC Radio, with stage performances such as comedians and song shows. In particular, the Tsubetsu River Climbing Contest, in which participants cross the river on 30 inner tubes tied together, sends a steady stream of contestants into the water and fills the venue with laughter — a signature event. The venue has a long row of tasty food stalls, and there are plenty of activities for both children and adults, such as the Mogu Mogu Champion in Tsubetsu and the Tsubetsu Be Janken Tournament. It is a regular part of summer in Tsubetsu that the whole family can enjoy.
