The Toriyaki Matsuri, held on August 5 near Hakone-machi Port, is an old festival dedicated to the dragon god. Near Shishigiki, where a male dragon and a female dragon are said to have appeared, two large torii gates—about 6 meters tall with a top crossbar about 6.7 meters long—are assembled and set on fire. Based on the belief that a dragon god descended to this place, it has long been passed down as an event that delivers people's prayers by offering the torii gates as bonfires. After sunset, when fire is set to the torii gates, fireworks shoot up, and a fantastical scene spreading light across the lake surface and night sky unfolds. It can be seen right after getting off at the Hakone-machi Port bus stop from Hakone-Yumoto Station on the Hakone Tozan Bus.

Getting there

From Hakone-Yumoto Station, take the Hakone Tozan Bus (Route R: 22 minutes, Route H: about 41 minutes) and get off at the Hakone-machi Port bus stop.
