The Tsujido Suwa Shrine Reitaisai is an annual festival held every July at Tsujido Suwa Shrine in Tsujido Motomachi, Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The shrine was founded in 1159 (the first year of the Heiji era) when a divided deity was enshrined from Suwa Taisha in Shinano Province, and it is known locally as "Tsujido no Osanma." After the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in 1873 (the sixth year of the Meiji era), it has been worshipped as the main tutelary shrine of Tsujido. The highlights of the festival are the ningyo dashi (figure floats) pulled through the streets on July 26 and 27, and the mikoshi (portable shrine) procession. The ningyo dashi are designated as tangible folk cultural properties of Fujisawa City, and four of them parade through the town: Minamoto no Yoritomo from Higashi-machi, Minamoto no Yoshiie from Nishi-machi, Takenouchi no Sukune from Minami-machi (Miyamoto), and Empress Jingu from Kita-machi. The miya mikoshi (shrine portable shrine) is carried with the dokkoi style on four carrying poles, while the mutsu mikoshi is carried on two poles; after the miya-dashi (departure of the shrine portable shrine), they proceed through a separate procession and are dedicated in a joint miya-iri (return to the shrine). It is about a 10-minute walk from JR Tsujido Station, and it is carried on as a traditional event representing summer in Fujisawa.
