The Shintotsukawa Snow Festival is a winter event held at Kita Chuo Park (the plaza in front of the Rural Environment Improvement Center Miraie) in Shintotsukawa, Hokkaido. The 33rd edition, in the 2026 fiscal year, was held on January 25, organized by the Furusato Festival Executive Committee with cooperation from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Takikawa Garrison. Several parking lots are provided within the town, and the event shares the winter appeal of Shintotsukawa together with the local community. At the venue, local groups sell food and drink, and a winter nabe (hotpot) contest is held where various hotpot dishes can be enjoyed for 100 to 300 yen; the Winter Nabe Grand Prize is decided by votes cast by visitors using disposable chopsticks and by the number of bowls sold. A jumbo slide and a mini slide for small children are also set up, enjoyable for everyone from children to adults. The highlight is the International Chinese Wok Push Sumo Championship - WAJIMA. It is a contest unique to Shintotsukawa in which participants ride on an oversized Chinese wok that is difficult to balance on and compete in push sumo on a snow ring, with divisions for general men, general women, and elementary school students. The program also includes an opening snow sculpture handover ceremony, mochi throwing, and a Shibuki Taiko drum performance by the Takikawa Garrison of the Self-Defense Forces, offering events to enjoy throughout the day.
