The Shintoku New Soba Festival is held in Shintoku, Hokkaido, on the last Sunday of September each year and is the town's largest festival. In 2025 it will take place on September 28 at the parking lot in front of the Shintoku Town Health and Welfare Center Nagomi, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The main attraction is the Soba Stall Village, where soba shops and soba-making groups from within the town set up stalls. They serve "four fresh" soba — freshly harvested, freshly milled, freshly made, and freshly boiled — with each shop's own dipping sauce and toppings. Other local products such as Shintoku jidori chicken charcoal-grilled and log-grown shiitake mushrooms are also available, along with sweets like soba crepes and soft-serve ice cream. In 2025, the 22nd edition, the wanko soba contest returns for the first time in six years. It has two divisions, a parent-child pair division and an adult pair division, in which teams of two compete to see how many bowls they can eat in two minutes. Shuttle buses also run from temporary parking lots to the venue, welcoming many visitors from within and outside Hokkaido.
