The Sasaī Hōnen Ashi Odori is dedicated at Sasaī Shirohige Shrine in Sayama, Saitama Prefecture, every year in April and October. It is a local performing art designated as a cultural property by Sayama. Passed down as one of the pieces in the Sasaī Hayashi repertoire, it is preserved and transmitted by the Sasaī Hōnen Ashi Odori Preservation Society. At the April annual festival it prays for a good harvest of crops, and at the October autumn festival it is dedicated in celebration of a bountiful harvest. The highlight is a distinctive dedicatory dance in which the dancers attach masks to their feet and dance to the lead of the hayashi music. Held twice a year at the shrine's festivals, it remains a valuable traditional event rooted in the community, expressing gratitude for the local harvest and prayers for abundance.
