The Nagai Iris Festival is a flower festival held every year from mid-June to early July at Iris Park in Nagai, Yamagata Prefecture. The 3.3-hectare grounds are planted with hundreds of iris varieties, and the park is known as one of Japan's foremost iris parks. The park is home to a unique variety called Nagai Koshu, which can be seen only at the iris park in Nagai, and these locally distinctive, valuable irises are preserved there. During the festival, along with sales of iris seedlings and local specialty products, a variety of events are held, including Iris Night evening opening, balloon flight experiences, a blessing morning market on the approach to Somiya Shrine, and the Nagai Odori Grand Parade.
