The Morimachi Sakura Matsuri in Hokkaido is a traditional spring festival that has been held since 1950. About 1,500 cherry trees, including old Somei Yoshino trees and shidarezakura (weeping cherry), are planted across two venues, Aobagaoka Park and Oniushi Park, and each year they welcome a lively cherry blossom viewing season. At Oniushi Park, the blossoms with Mount Komagatake in the background are another highlight. A song show is held as the main event, along with various participatory events and a cherry blossom viewing tea ceremony hosted by a tea ceremony enthusiasts' group. Illumination is also held at night, letting visitors enjoy a different side of the cherry blossoms than during the day. The venue is conveniently accessible, about a 15-minute walk from JR Mori Station.
