The Mibu-dera Setsubun Festival (Setsubun-e) held at Mibu-dera in Kyoto is one of Kyoto's annual events, with a tradition of over 900 years dating back to the vow of Emperor Shirakawa. The temple, located at the rear demon gate, has since ancient times formed part of the Setubun demon gate pilgrimage, praying for the common people's protection from disaster and the invitation of good fortune before the important cultural property honzon Enmei Jizo Bosatsu.
