The Mamekara-san Festival is held at Inari Shrine in Toyosato Town, Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture, on the second Sunday of October each year. It is a rite praying for a bountiful harvest of the five grains, originating from the soybean harvest season. Inari Shrine is said to have been moved to its present location in the second year of Kanbun (1662), and its predecessor was a Tendai sect shugendo temple. According to legend, the festival's name came about because visitors trampled the bean fields, leading it to be called "Mamekara-san." On the day, children's sumo is held, and the Kamimachi Hoin Kagura, designated a Miyagi Prefecture folk cultural property in 2005, is dedicated. Through kagura with a tradition of several hundred years, the region's rich harvest is prayed for.
