Kiba no Kadanori is a folk performing arts event held at Metropolitan Kiba Park in Koto Ward, Tokyo, as part of the Koto Ward Residents' Festival Chuo Matsuri. Organized by the Koto Ward Office, this event serves as a place to pass on to later generations the traditional kadanori (corner-log riding) technique rooted in the local area. The origin of this performing art dates back to the Edo period, born from the spare-time diversion of the "Kawanami," timber workers of Kiba, who handled timber floated on the water with a single tobi-guchi (pike pole) and assembled it into rafts. Because corner timber requires more advanced skill than log riding, a variety of techniques were added and it developed as a performing art. On the day, to the fast tempo of Kasai Bayashi, numerous acts are performed, including jinosori, ainori, kasakasa-nori, sensu-nori, tebanashi-nori, koma-geta-nori, ashi-da-nori, kawasemi-nori, hashigo-nori, sanpo-nori, and modorigago. Visitors can enjoy the traditional kadanori performance, in which the artisans' skills shine.
