The Izu Oshima Camellia Festival is a major island-wide event held in Oshima Town, Tokyo (Izu Oshima) every year from around January to March. Organized by Oshima Town and the Oshima Tourism Association, with the main venue at the Motomachi Port Passenger Waiting Area, the entire island is wrapped in the signs of an early spring. In 2026, the 71st festival will be held under the theme 'Touring the Camellia Landscape.' This festival began in 1956 (Showa 31) and has been loved by the island's people for over 70 years. The island has three 'International Camellia Gardens' certified by the International Camellia Society (ICS), and it continues to convey the history and culture of a camellia village that is proud to the world. During the period, the 'Camellia Exhibition' and the 'Governor's Cup Camellia Festival Photo Contest' are held daily, and on weekends, events such as the 'Edo Mikoshi and Anko Parade,' 'Night Festival,' and 'Camellia Petal Dyeing Experience Class' take place. There are also the 'Camellia Queen Contest,' the 'Camellia Marathon,' and the 'Geopark Exhibition' at Mt. Mihara, and visitors can enjoy experiences unique to Izu Oshima, such as trying on 'anko costumes' and visiting food stalls.
