かなやま湖湖水まつり
Minamifurano, Hokkaido (Kanayama Lakeside Campground) · 27 July 2024
316 days to go
Rooms around Minamifurano, Hokkaido fill up while the festival is on.
The Kanayama Lake Lake Festival is held at the lakeside campground on Lake Kanayama in Minamifurano, Hokkaido, and is the town's largest summer event. Organized by the Kanayama Lake Sun, Forest, and Lake Festival Executive Committee, it reached its 53rd edition in 2024 and has long been loved as a fixture of summer in Minamifurano. On stage, there are performances such as the Lake Ondo, the local idol group Rowanberry, and a song show by enka singer Kumiko Ishigami, who is from Minamifurano. At the venue, there are canoe and boat fishing experiences, equipment displays and jeep test rides by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force's Kamifurano Camp, and a tour inside the Kanayama Dam, which is normally not open to the public. There is also a mochi-throwing event using the town's specialty glutinous rice, Hakucho Mochi. The climax of the evening is a large fireworks display that colors the lake surface. About 2,000 fireworks are launched, including a 700-meter Niagara, offering a powerful presentation. Many temporary stalls and food trucks open, making it a day to fully experience the blessings of the sun, forest, and lake.
Getting there
The venue parking lot has space for about 1,000 cars, but congestion is expected, so bus use is recommended. Temporary loop buses and school buses operate, and some sections are free to use.
