At Enryu-ji Temple in Naka Ward, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, the Tokasan Grand Festival is held every year over three days, from the first Friday of June through Sunday. In 2026 (Reiwa 8), it will be held from June 5 to 7. Centered on Enryu-ji Temple, which is deeply rooted in the city of Hiroshima, it is familiar as an event that announces the arrival of summer. In 2026 (Reiwa 8), this grand festival marks its 407th year, a long-standing summer tradition in Hiroshima. During the period, the Kaicho Hoyo (opening ceremony) and Heicho Hoyo (closing ceremony) are held, incorporating Buddhist prayers. Highlights include the granting of amulets and ippofu talismans available only during the festival, special festival prayers, and events such as Uchiwa Hime. Through three days of special Buddhist services and events, Enryu-ji Temple announces the beginning of summer in Hiroshima.
