The Hamamasu Furusato Matsuri is held every autumn at the Kawashimo Kaihin Park event plaza in the Hamamasu ward of Ishikari, Hokkaido, and is one of Ishikari's three major autumn festivals. Organized by the Hamamasu Furusato Matsuri steering committee, it is a traditional festival that has developed alongside the history of Ishikari as a salmon town, and it broadly promotes the local salmon culture. On the day, fresh salmon are sold on the spot, along with direct sales of local specialties such as Japanese Black beef and vegetables. On stage, local performing arts such as the Okiage Ondo and the Hamamasu Horyo Daiko are presented, and a Tyrannosaurus race for children is also held. It runs from 9:00 to 15:15 and is an event where visitors can experience the region's food and traditions.
Getting there
Access to the venue, the Kawashimo Kaihin Park event plaza: from JR Sapporo Station, take the express bus bound for Ishikari for about 1 hour, get off at the final stop, Ishikari Bus Terminal, then about 15 minutes by taxi. Alternatively, about 50 minutes by car from central Sapporo.
