Rooms around Kashima, Saga fill up while the festival is on.
The Kashima Gatalympics is held on the tidal flats of the Ariake Sea in Kashima City, Saga Prefecture. The venue is Nanaura Seaside Sports Park (Roadside Station Kashima), and it is organized by the Kashima Gatalympics Executive Committee and the Kashima Junior Chamber of Commerce. In 2026 the event will mark its 42nd edition, with competitions taking place in the distinctive environment of the Ariake Sea's tidal flats. The highlight is the unusual competitions fought out while participants get covered in mud. The muddier the competitors become, the more the spectators get into it, and the venue is filled with a sense of unity. Viewing is free, and a free shuttle bus also runs to the venue. Access is convenient: about 10 minutes on foot from Hizen-Nanaura Station, or about 20 minutes by car from Hizen-Kashima Station.
Getting there
About 20 minutes by car from Hizen-Kashima Station, about 10 minutes on foot from Hizen-Nanaura Station. Free parking available (use the Yutoku Inari Shrine parking lot; parking around the roadside station is not permitted).
