The Chitose/Shikotsu Lake Hyoto Festival is a ice art festival held in the Shikotsu Lake Onsen area of Chitose, Hokkaido, using water from Shikotsu Lake, which is known for its exceptional clarity. Water sprayed from sprinklers freezes onto frames, creating ice sculptures of various sizes that line the grounds and lead visitors into an "ice art museum." During the day, the site is wrapped in a clear blue called "natural blue," and the cold air and texture of the ice stimulate the senses. After sunset, the grounds are lit with seven colors of light, and the ice sculptures shine fantastically. In the silence, you can hear the ice creaking and feel the cold on your fingertips as you experience a world apart from the everyday. There are also high-quality hot springs nearby, so after viewing the ice sculptures you can warm your chilled body and enjoy a luxurious time unique to Hokkaido's winter.
