The Akkeshi Cherry Blossom and Oyster Festival runs from May 9 to 17, 2026, at Nenohi Park in Akkeshi, Hokkaido. About 1,200 trees, including Ezo mountain cherry, are planted in the park, and the blossoms covering its 120,000-square-meter grounds are known as the last cherry blossom viewing of the Japanese archipelago. Held from mid to late May in a typical year, the event sells oysters in the shell and large clams caught in the waters off Akkeshi, along with other seafood, so visitors can enjoy the blossoms and the sea's bounty at the same time. Nenohi Park is a popular cherry blossom spot, and the event is a way to take in spring in eastern Hokkaido.
Getting there
From JR Hanasaki Line Akkeshi Station, take a Kushiro Bus (Akkeshi/Kushiro Line or Kokutaiji Line) and get off at Nenohi Park (about 20 minutes).
