The Zuiki Festival, held at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto, is named after zuiki, the edible stems of taro and lotus-leaf taro. Along with three imperial palanquins, a zuiki mikoshi (portable shrine) decorated with zuiki and vegetables appears in the procession. The name shares its pronunciation with zuiki meaning auspiciousness and with zuki meaning rejoicing, while the character for ki represents offering food to the deities. In the kami procession on October 1, a parade leaves the main shrine for the otabisho at 1:00 p.m., and after arrival, the Yaotome dance is dedicated from 4:00 p.m. In the return procession on the 4th, a mikoshi parade departs the otabisho at 1:00 p.m. and proceeds through the surrounding parishioner areas including Kamishichiken, reaching the climax of the festival.

From JR Kyoto Station, take City Bus routes 50 or 101 and get off at Kitano Tenmangu-mae, or walk about 5 minutes from Kitano Hakubaicho Station on the Keifuku Electric Railroad Kitano Line.
