The "Yamabiraki, Umibiraki Suijo-sai" (Mountain Opening and Sea Opening Water Festival) held at Torigoe Shrine is one of the annual events of Torigoe in Taito Ward. The sources do not specify its origin, but it is thought to be a Shinto ritual held as a shrine event, consisting of the opening of a Fujizuka (a mound modeled after Mount Fuji) and prayers for safety on the water in connection with the opening of the sea. Highlights include the procession of the Sengoku mikoshi (portable shrine), for which the Torigoe Shrine festival is known, and the climbing ritual to the Fujizuka.
