The Yufuin Gyuukui Zekkyou Taikai (Yufuin Beef-Eating Scream Contest), held at Namayanagi Farm in Yufuincho, Yufu City, Oita Prefecture, is a regular autumn event now in its 51st year. At the venue, a wide pasture surrounded by nature, participants enjoy a barbecue of locally raised Yufuin beef, then scream whatever is on their mind, competing on the volume and content of their shouts. The day's main schedule is: entry and the meal begin at 10:30, the screaming contest starts at 12:00, and judging results and the awards ceremony are held at 14:00. At a venue specially opened on an autumn grassland where pampas grass plumes sway, the whole family can enjoy Yufuin's autumn. Participation is limited to the first 400 people, by advance reservation and advance payment, and the event is cancelled in rain (in that case the beef is sent to participants).
Getting there
The venue is Namayanagi Farm in Yufuincho, Yufu City. The nearest station is JR Yufuin Station, about 10 minutes from the station by taxi or car. Parking will be directed on the day.
