Umeda Hadaka Mairi is a traditional event held at Kumano Miya Shrine in Goshogawara City, Aomori Prefecture. It takes place every year during the old lunar New Year, and participants, dressed in white robes and wearing sugegasa (conical sedge hats), purify themselves by bathing in water in the cold before parading to the shrine. This event is held to pray for good health and family safety, and is said to have a history of about 300 years. The highlight is the sight of participants vigorously pouring water over themselves in the mizugori (water purification) ritual, accompanied by the chant "Enyaraya," creating an atmosphere that is both heroic and sacred.
