The Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival is held in spring at Hirosaki Park in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture. In 2026, it will run for 26 days from April 10 to May 5, organized by Hirosaki City, the Hirosaki Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Hirosaki Tourism and Convention Association, and others. About 2,600 cherry trees of 52 varieties, mainly Somei Yoshino, along with weeping cherries and double-flowered cherries, bloom and cover the grounds of Hirosaki Castle, a nationally designated historic site. Many of the cherry trees in the park are old trees over 100 years old, and the rich floral scenery produced by many years of care is a defining feature. There are cherry blossom attractions related to the number seven, such as the "Hirosaki Seven Cherry Blossom Views," the "Hirosaki Seven Cherry Trees" of seven carefully selected varieties, and the "Hirosaki Seven-Petaled Cherry" in which seven flowers bloom from a single flower bud. During the period, special illumination is held from sunset until 10:00 PM, allowing visitors to enjoy the cherry blossoms at night. Limited-time events are also held, including the Nakabori Sightseeing Boat, which tours the moat by Japanese-style boat, the Nishibori Boat, and the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival Neputa procession. In paid areas such as the Honmaru and Kitanokuruwa, there are time periods when an admission fee is required.

Getting there

About 30 minutes on foot from JR Hirosaki Station to Hirosaki Park, or about 15 minutes by bus (Dotemachi Loop 100-Yen Bus), getting off at "Shiyakusho-mae" or "Bunka Center-mae" and walking immediately. There is no free parking, so use nearby paid parking lots.
