The Toyohama Tai Matsuri is held in the Toyohama district of Minamichita, Aichi Prefecture. It is a festival praying for the safety of Toyohama and the sea, and is also called one of Japan's strange festivals. It is known as a traditional event with a unique form that carries on the prayers of a community tied to fishing and the sea. The highlight of the festival is a giant sea bream over 10 meters long, made by combining bamboo and wood and wrapping it in white cotton cloth. Carried by young men, the sea bream parades through the streets of Toyohama, swinging its tail as if it were alive and holding its fins stiff. Its gallant, powerful presence colors the summer of Toyohama amid loud cheers from the crowd.
