The Japan Homeland Tono Festival is the largest event in Tono City, Iwate Prefecture, held each year around Respect for the Aged Day. With the city center and Tono Go Hachimangu Shrine as its venues, it passes on the local performing arts rooted in Tono to the next generation while aiming to revitalize the community through participation by all citizens. Tono City has more than 60 local performing arts groups, which display their skills once a year at this festival, conveying their value as the region's "treasures." It also stands out for aiming to build a sustainable festival under the slogan "good to watch, good to join." On the first day, on the street in front of the station, a parade of local performing arts is followed by a large shishi odori dance. At the City Hall main building, a kagura joint performance is held. On the second day, Tono Nanbu yabusame is demonstrated at the riding grounds within the precincts of Tono Go Hachimangu Shrine, and a joint performance can be enjoyed at the kagura hall as well.
