The Osorezan Taisai is held at Osorezan in Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture, every year from July 20 to 24. Many worshippers come from all over the country for this summer festival, which is one of the two major festivals held at Osorezan each year. It has long been said that praying to Jizo on the day of the Taisai saves the deceased from suffering, and the festival carries a strong meaning of memorializing the dead. Along with the autumn Osorezan Aki Mairi, it draws many visitors. Particularly well known is the itako no kuchiyose, in which the spirits of the dead are called up and participants can have an experience as if conversing with the deceased. In fiscal 2023 the number of visitors was 9,813, and the mountain entry fee is 500 yen. Access is also in place, with about 45 minutes by Shimokita Kotsu bus from JR Shimokita Station.
