The Ome Taisai, held every year on May 2 and 3 in Ome City, Tokyo, is a spring tradition in which 12 dashi (festival floats) parade through the area around Ome Station. Organized by the Ome Taisai Executive Committee and held at Sumiyoshi Shrine, the festival fills the Edo-era streetscape with festive energy. It is said to have begun in 1513 during the Sengoku period to celebrate renovations to Sumiyoshi Shrine's worship hall, giving it a history of over 500 years. The highlight is the dashi procession that begins with the Yoimiya Festival on the first day. In the five neighborhoods of Sumiecho, Honcho, Nakacho, Kamicho, and Morishitacho, precious dolls made from the Edo period to the early Meiji period are displayed, and at night the floats, lit with paper lanterns, create a magical scene as they parade through the town. On the second day, the Main Festival begins with the early morning "Asagiri," and the 12 floats engage in "Kurabei" competitions along Ome Kaido, with the music of gongs, drums, and flutes reaching its climax. At the accompanying Matsuri Market, visitors can enjoy local specialties and street stalls.
