The Momotaro Festival is held every year on May 5, Children's Day, at Momotaro Shrine and Momotaro Park in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture. It is a festival praying for children's health and safety. Rooted in the legend of Momotaro's birthplace along the Kiso River, visitors pray for their children's growth, hoping to share in Momotaro's extraordinary power. Momotaro Shrine was established in 1930 and enshrines Momotaro, who defeated the ogres, as Okami Mishime no Mikoto, born from a peach. The highlight of the festival is the Momotaro Procession, in which children dressed as Momotaro pull a peach mikoshi (portable shrine) and a treasure cart through the shrine grounds and park. Local elementary school students also perform the Momotaro Odori, a children's song with lyrics by Noguchi Ujo, and elementary school students can join the procession with advance reservation.
