The Sogen Festival, a spring tradition in Myoko, Niigata Prefecture, is a major Myoko Kogen event heralding the arrival of spring, held around Ikenotaira Onsen and Imori Pond. Under the clear early-spring sky, the large kayaba-yaki (fire characters) appearing on the mountainside and the colorful fireworks decorating the night sky present a magical scene to visitors. On the day, nearly 20 local eateries and food trucks gather at the event plaza, where warm local dishes and sweets can be enjoyed from the daytime. Centered on the 7:00 p.m. lighting of the fire characters and the fireworks launch shortly after 7:00 p.m., a lively time celebrating the beginning of spring unfolds.
