Kuroishi Yosare is a summer festival held every year in mid-August in Kuroishi, Aomori Prefecture, and is known as one of Japan's three great nagashi odori (flowing dances). With venues at various places around central Kuroishi, residents and visitors from within and outside the prefecture enjoy dancing until late at night. This festival has an old tradition and consists of three dances: mawari odori (circling dance), kumi odori (group dance), and nagashi odori (flowing dance). Mawari odori, which at times forms circles, turns into a wild dance that draws in spectators, and in kumi odori, dance groups gathered from nearby towns and villages perform Tsugaru folk song hand dances to shamisen, drums, and singing. Along with nagashi odori, newly created dances have been added in recent years, making the event even more lively than before. It is a festival where tradition and innovation intersect, coloring the summer nights of Tsugaru.

Getting there

About 10 minutes on foot from Kuroishi Station on the Konan Railway. About 10 minutes from Kuroishi IC on the Tohoku Expressway. Parking is available at Miyuki Park (free, about 100 spaces) and Spocal Inn Kuroishi (free, about 200 spaces).
