Koshogatsu Taue Odori and Tondo Hadaka Mairi is a traditional event held at Morioka Hachimangu Shrine in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. It takes place around the time of Koshogatsu (the little New Year) and is characterized by prayers for a bountiful harvest and good health. In the taue odori (rice-planting dance), folk performing arts praying for a good harvest are dedicated, and in the tondo hadaka mairi, participants circle a fire while naked, a form of powerful prayer that has been passed down. These events carry on the region's faith and farming culture to the present day.
