Rooms around Kyoto fill up while the festival is on.
Karasuzumo is a traditional Shinto ritual held at Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. Its exact origin is unknown, but it has long been dedicated to pray for a bountiful harvest and good health. The highlights of the festival are the dohyo-iri (ring-entering ceremony) and the matches, in which men in matching loincloths clash fiercely on the sumo ring, with the seko's (attendants') calls accompanying the valiant sumo.
