At Inari Kio Shrine in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, the annual festival will be held from September 13 to 18, 2025. The shrine is known for enshrining oni (demons), which is rare in Japan, and during the festival the eight oni statues normally kept in the main hall are placed in the corridor and can be viewed. The statue of an oni holding a heavenly maiden is particularly striking. As main events, on September 14 there will be a children's mikoshi (portable shrine) and drum cart procession, a dedication performance, and a raffle; on the 15th, an adults' mikoshi carved with oni faces will parade through the streets, and at night a solemn mikoshi entry will be held led by young men wearing oni masks. In addition, there will be simultaneous displays of books by Lafcadio Hearn and Mimekichi Shimazaki, who were parishioners, displays of Showa-era movie posters, and a ceremony commemorating the 60th anniversary of the shrine's reconstruction after the Tokyo air raids.
