The Iwate Snow Festival is a winter event held in Shizukuishi Town, Iwate Prefecture, and other venues, organized by its executive committee. The 52nd festival took place from February 2 to 11, with Iwate Kogen Snow Park as the main venue, across a total of seven venues: four within Shizukuishi Town, plus Morioka City and Takizawa City. Under the theme "Play, Tour, Feel, the Excitement of Snow," about 141,000 people from inside and outside the prefecture and from overseas enjoyed interacting with snow. At the venues, the customary snow train and sledding area, along with the revived giant slide, drew crowds, and a variety of events were held, including a soprano concert by Shizukuishi Town tourism ambassador Misaki Tanaka and performances by locally born singers. Fireworks available only on February 8 and illuminations of snow sculptures also colored the winter night sky, and events making use of each venue's characteristics were presented, such as kamakura Jingisukan at Koiwai Farm Makibaen and tasting and sales of local sake at Morioka Handi-Works Square.
