The Iriya Asagao Matsuri (Morning Glory Festival) is a summer tradition held in the Iriya and Shitaya area of Taito Ward, Tokyo, over three days every year from July 6 to 8. Centered on Iriya Kishimojin (Shingen Temple), Kototoi-dori is lined with about 30 morning glory vendors and close to 100 street stalls (ennichi), drawing around 100,000 visitors each year. The festival was revived in 1948, after the war, through the efforts of local volunteers who wanted to bring a little brightness to the world, with the cooperation of the Shitaya Tourism Association. It has long been enjoyed as a summer event rich in Edo atmosphere. At the venue, besides the sale of morning glories, visitors can enjoy the street stalls of the ennichi, and many people come from near and far. It is organized by the Shitaya Tourism Association and the Iriya Asagao Executive Committee, and held with the cooperation of the local community.
