The Ichinomiya Tanabata Festival is held in Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture, over four days in late July each year, organized by the Ichinomiya Tanabata Festival Promotion Association and Masumida Shrine. The city, known as a textile town, began the festival in 1956 as a "Textile Thanksgiving Festival" to give thanks to the textile deity of Hatori Shrine and to pray for the prosperity of the local industry. Along with the Sendai Tanabata Festival and the Shonan Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival, it is counted as one of Japan's three great Tanabata festivals. The venue centers on the Honmachi arcade and extends throughout the city, with traditional fukinagashi streamer decorations as well as creative Tanabata decorations by elementary and junior high schools. Main events include the Gori Hoken Grand Procession, a rickshaw Tanabata procession, a bon dance competition, Japanese dance, wadaiko drumming, a uchizuimizu water-sprinkling campaign, and a lantern festival; at the special stage, character shows and a world cosplay parade can also be enjoyed. The venue is about a 7-minute walk from JR Owari-Ichinomiya Station and Meitetsu Ichinomiya Station.
