The Horikawa Matsuri is a summer event in Nagoya held at Miyanowatashi Park and organized by the NPO Horikawa Machi Net. Now in its 37th edition, it is known as a festival with a history rooted in the community along the Horikawa River. The lights of the makiwara boats floating on the water cast a magical glow over the Horikawa, while taiko drumming and shishimai (lion dance) performances liven up the venue. Food trucks also set up stalls, so visitors can enjoy both food and traditional entertainment. The venue is about a 10-minute walk from Atsuta Jingu Temmacho Station on the Nagoya Municipal Subway Meijo Line. Visiting together with nearby sightseeing spots such as Atsuta Jingu and Shirotori Garden is also recommended.
