Hatsukonpira is a New Year festival held every January at Kotohira Shrine in Kotohira, Kagawa Prefecture. Kotohira Shrine is popularly known as "Konpira-san" and attracts worshippers from across Japan, and the festival is held around the time of the year's first shrine visit. The festival originates in a Shinto rite held to pray for safety and happiness in the new year, and many worshippers come seeking the blessings of Kotohira Shrine, which is known in particular as a deity of maritime safety and business prosperity. The main events include the offering of shinsen (food offerings to the gods) before the altar and the giving out of lucky charms to New Year's visitors, while stalls line the center of Kotohira and the area bustles with activity. The sight of worshippers climbing the stone-stepped approach also creates a distinctive atmosphere.

The nearest stations are Kotohira Station on the JR Dosan Line and Kotoden-Kotohira Station on the Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad. About 10 minutes on foot. Paid parking is available in the surrounding area.
