Rooms around Takamatsu, Kagawa fill up while the festival is on.
The Sanuki Takamatsu Festival, held in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, from August 12 to 14, is in its 59th year and is one of the four major festivals of Shikoku. The main venues are Anabuki Arena Kagawa and the Stone Stage at the multipurpose plaza in Sunport Takamatsu, where residents and many tourists gather under the slogan "Moss Takamatsu." Built by predecessors who loved their local area, this festival has been cherished as a traditional event that colors the midsummer nights of the Sanuki region. The climax is the fireworks display on August 13 and the grand finale dance "Kimai Waraimai" on the 14th. About 6,000 fireworks are launched from the Takamatsu Port Tamamo Breakwater, and music-synchronized fireworks can also be enjoyed around the venue. At the final day's grand dance, children and adults alike dance as one on the Stone Stage at the multipurpose plaza in Sunport Takamatsu, greatly livening up the festival.
