Rooms around Kyoto fill up while the festival is on.
The Spring Doll Exhibition is held every spring at Hokyoji Temple in Kyoto, a special event that puts the temple's valuable doll collection on public display. Hokyoji is an amamonzeki convent temple known as Dodo Gosho, and because it houses numerous dolls presented from the imperial court, it is affectionately known as the "Doll Temple" and has a long-standing connection with dolls. The exhibition centers on hina dolls and gosho dolls. Visitors can view up close the expressions and attire of these charming dolls handed down through the ages, and enjoy the appeal of a collection that strongly retains traces of court culture. Those visiting Kyoto in spring can enjoy a quiet encounter with dolls that convey a sense of history.
